Abstract

737,396. Seats. GREAVES & THOMAS, Ltd., and DUNCAN, F. Oct. 9, 1953 [Oct. 21, 1952], No. 26388/52. Class 52 (2). In a reclining chair the back-rest is pivotally mounted on the chair frame and the seat is hingedly connected to the back-rest and has forwardly inclined links pivoted to the chair frame. A foot-rest pivoted to the seat and interconnected with the chair frame is also provided. As shown, the back-rest 4 is provided with side bars 5 pivoted at their lower ends to anchor plates 6 carried by the chair frame, the seat 3 is provided with bars 7 which are pivoted to the bars 5 and are pivotally linked to the anchor plates 6 by links 8 which are inclined forwardly in the normal position of the seat. A leg-rest 10 is pivotally connected to the front of the seat by a curved arm at each side and by a link 13 centrally to a bracket 15 mounted on a cross-member 9 which serves to support the seat when the latter is in the upright sitting position. In the fully reclining position shown, the leg-rest assumes the horizontal position but returns to vertical position as the back-rest and seat is moved by the occupant to the upright sitting position. A counterbalancing spring 17 is provided.
