Abstract
925,600. Crucibles. MICROCELL Ltd. Nov. 21, 1961 [Nov. 21, 1960], No. 39931/60. Class 82. [Also in Group XI] A vessel 1 included in an electric furnace (see Group XI) is made of electrically conducting material, e.g. platinum or an alloy of platinum and other metals in the platinum group, and is heated by an electric current passing through it by way of a pair of lugs 3, 4. The vessel is substantially cylindrical in shape and is provided with a tube 2 through which material e.g. glass or its constituents, is passed into or out of the vessel. The vessel is also provided with a tube 5 and a lug 6 serving as means for mounting a thermocouple with which the temperature of the vessel can be measured; the tube 5 does not open into the vessel. The lugs 3, 4, 6 and the tubes 2, 5 are attached to the vessel by welding, and the vessel may be formed from two semi-cylindrical parts each provided with a slot to receive the lug 3 or 4.
