Abstract

587,573. Furnace electrodes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and PARTRIDGE, J. H. March 10, 1944, No. 4483. [Class 39 (iii)] In glass furnaces for lead glass comprising electrodes between which current flows through the molten glass, the electrodes are composed mainly or wholly of tungsten or molybdenum, or a mixture or alloy of these, and the parts of the electrode surfaces not submerged in molten glass have a coating of glass of suitable thermal expansion. Silicon carbide resistance heaters are placed above the glass to melt it.
