Abstract

The invention comprises hydrazines of the general formula <FORM:0924334/IV(a)/1> and salts thereof, wherein R1 and R2 each represents an amino group which is disubstituted by lower hydrocarbon radicals of aliphatic character containing at most 8 carbon atoms and whose carbon chains may be interrupted by one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur atoms and R3 represents a hydrazino group which is substituted by at least one substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical of aliphatic character whose carbon chain may be interrupted by one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur atoms and the preparation thereof by reacting a triazine of the formula <FORM:0924334/IV(a)/2> wherein X is a chlorine atom with a hydrazine R3H or reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:0924334/IV(a)/3> with an oxo compound which can be reduced to an aliphatic alcohol, and reducing the resulting condensation product and, if desired, converting free bases into salts or salts into free bases, together with pharmaceutical compositions containing them. Hydrocarbon radicals of aliphatic character include alkyl, cycloalkyl, and cycloalkyl alkyl. Radicals of the aforementioned type interrupted by one or more hetero atoms include oxaalkylene, azacycloalkyl and azaalkylene. In the case of R2 the alkyl radicals may be substituted by hydroxy, phenyl or heterocyclyl groups, the phenyl or heterocyclyl groups being unsubstituted or substitituted by C1-8 alkyl, C1-8 alkoxy groups or halogen atoms. Acid addition salts include those formed with ascorbic acid lysine, tryptophan, methionine and arginine. Pharmaceutical compositions, useful for the treatment of neurological diseases, comprise the triazines of the invention together with an inert diluent. They may be formulated as tablets, dragees, solutions, suspensions or emulsions, and may contain further therapeutically useful substances. Specification 825,072 is referred to.
