Abstract

923,791. Bearings. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. Jan. 26, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959], No. 2809/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXVI] In a roller bearing the outer race is secured axially on a shaft and is sealed laterally by extensions on the race which co-operate with seals at each end of the race. The race 5<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, has a convex way for rollers 4 located in a recess 3 in a shaft 1. Resilient seals 8 which may be split to increase their resilience, and which may have projections 6<SP>11</SP>, are located in grooves 9 in the shaft and co-operate with extensions 6<SP>1</SP> on the race to form seals for the bearing. A spring clip 12, Fig. 2, located in a groove 13 in the race is connected to a cover 11 by a pin 14, the cover being maintained in the required radial position to provide a clearance 15 by collars on the pin, and also by a leg 11<SP>11</SP> on the cover, and the axial position of the cover being maintained by lugs 11<SP>1</SP> which engage the bearing pedestal 2. To clean the bearing, the cover is removed and legs 8<SP>1</SP> of the seals are pulled into the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 5, the legs are then allowed to spring back into their sealing position and the cover is replaced.
