Abstract

718,781. Bearings. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Jan. 2, 1953 [Jan. 5, 1952], No. 178/53. Class 12(1) In a cylindrical roller bearing having relatively axially displaceable outer and inner bearing members 14, 1, an annular flanged member 19 engages the ends of a row of rollers 3 and is pressed into engagement therewith by resilient means disposed between the member 19 and an abutment member 17 secured to the bearing member 1. The members 19, 17 together form a fluid-compression chamber in which a number of pre-stressed helical springs 20 are disposed in annular pockets. A groove 21 and a channel 22 in the member 17 constitute a leak passage to prevent the formation of a vacuum in the chamber after compression of the springs 20. The members 17, 19 are held together as a single unit for mounting by pins 23. As shown applied to an axle box 14, two rows of rollers 3, 4 are provided, the outer races 5, 6 of which are positioned by rings 9, 11. A common inner bearing ring 2 on the axle 1 is provided. Alternatively the resilient thrust arrangement may be associated with the outer bearing member 14 instead of the inner bearing member 1.
