Abstract

864,061. Supporting and mounting bearings. TIMKEN ROLLER BEARING CO. June 2, 1959 [Aug. 29, 1958], No. 27749/58. Class 12 (1). A bearing-housing comprises an inner sleeve 1 having bearings mounted therein and a caliper-like member 2 having arms 16, extending to opposedlugs 20 through which a tightening- bolt 21 passes. Relative rotation is prevented between the member 2 and the sleeve 1 by flat engaging-faces 22, 23, thereon. The member 2 has internally-directed radial flanges 28, 32, engaged by the sleeve 1 to prevent undesired axial movement and, on assembly, the sleeve 1 is supported by pads 27 in the arms 16 and at points on the member 2 opposite to the lugs 20. Each bearing consists of outer and inner races 4, 5, with rollers 3 therebetween, and each outer race 4 is mounted in an annular recess in the sleeve 1 and has its inner end abutting a flange 6 of the sleeve 1. The inner races 5 are on an axle 7 and have a spacing-ring 8 therebetween. The inner races 5 are retained axially at one end by a member 9 secured to the axle 7 by a screw 10, and at the other end by a ring 11 which abuts a shoulder on the axle. Closure-rings 12, 13, and an endcover 14 complete the assembly, and a spacer may be placed between the lugs 20. In a modification, the free ends of the arms are at the top of the member 2. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the member 2 is formed in two portions 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> hinged together by a pin 36.
