Abstract

The invention comprises 3b -acyloxy-18-nor-D-homo- 13#x-androstan- 17-ones of the formula <FORM:0922652/IV(a)/1> and the lactones of 3b -acyloxy-16-hydroxy-16, 17- seco-18- nor-D-homo- 13#x-androstane-17-carboxylic acids of the formula <FORM:0922652/IV(a)/2> in each case the acyloxy group is derived from an organic carboxylic acid having from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, and the preparation of the former compound by treating the corresponding 3-hydroxy compound with the required acid anhydride or chloride in the presence of a tertiary base, and the preparation of the latter compound by treating the former compound with a per carboxylic acid such as perbenzoic or perphthalic acid.
