Abstract
916,696. Cooling pistons. SOC. CIVILE D'ETUDES MAREP-GROSSHANS-OLLIER. Sept. 28, 1960 [Sept. 29, 1959], No. 33330/60. Class 122 (1). In a piston 1 cooled by liquid circulated through an annular chamber 2 formed in and coaxial with the piston, the liquid inlet port 12 and the liquid outlet port 14 open into the chamber at a first distance H and a second distance h respectively from the bottom 13 thereof, the distance H being greater than the distance h. The cooling liquid, which may be engine lubricating oil, is fed from a nozzle 9 to the chamber 2 through a conduit 10 in the piston and is returned through another conduit 15 in the piston. Preferably, the distance H is approximately twice h and approximately onetenth of the piston diameter.
