Abstract

916,154. Hinges. SCHIMEK, A. F. Sept. 16, 1960 [Oct. 13, 1959], No. 31988/60. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A door mounting comprises at least one track 70 secured to the door 22 (as shown) or to the wall and formed with a pair of verticallydisplaced flanges 80, 82 (Figs. 4 and 5), and at least one pair of arms 36, 38, pivotally secured at one end to the wall or the door, respectively, and at the other to a carriage 68 slidable in the track, each arm being formed with a boss 60, 62 at its end engaging the carriage and the arrangement being such that the door first moves outwardly from the door opening whilst remaining parallel thereto, during which the arms turn about their pivots and the bosses rotate in cut-out portions 84, 86 in the flanges, and then slides parallel to the door opening during which the carriage moves in the track and the flanges are received in recesses 90 and 92 in the bosses. Shoulders 56, 58 and 72, 74 are formed at the fixed and slidable ends, respectively, of the arms and abut a mounting bracket 28 and the carriage 68 to limit the pivotal movement of the arms to the precise amount required to bring the recesses 90 and 92, into alignment with the flanges. In a modification the arms are bent to allow greater lateral displacement of the door. The door is preferably mounted by two sets of arms, located at the top and bottom, respectively. If desired, one set may be replaced by a single arm. Specification 895,370 is referred to.
