Abstract
915,184. Compound paper; laminates. BOWATER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. May 28, 1959 [May 29, 1958], No. 17213/58. Classes 96 and 140. Laminated wrapping material comprises two plies of flexible sheet material united by an intermediate layer of wax or wax mixture, one ply being formed with an opening or openings in a localized area or areas, where there will be an overlap when the wrapper is in use, to afford passage for wax or wax mixture in the localized area or areas upon the application of heat and pressure, whereby heat sealing of the wrapper can be effected. Each ply has a degree of resistance to grease such that it is not substantially penetrated by the wax or wax mixture under the application of heat and pressure. The perforated ply may be of greaseproof paper or vegetable parchment, and the other ply of super-calendered paper; other materials referred to are cardboard, cellulose film, cellulose acetate, rubber hydrochloride, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride and aluminium foil. The perforations may be small, as pin-holes or slits, or portions of the one ply may be removed to expose areas of wax or wax mixture. The wax mixture may comprise miorocrystalline wax and butyl rubber. The wax or wax mixture may be coated on to the surface of one ply which is then laminated to the other ply which has already been perforated.
