Abstract

913,284. Two-part couplings. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. April 10, 1959 [April 14, 1958], No. 12296/59. Class 38 (1). An electrical socket connector comprises an insulating body 16 having openings 20 extending therethrough and a contact seated within each opening, said contact having a pair of inwardly compressible outwardly biased spring legs 26, 27 integrally connected at their lower ends to define a tail 28 and-provided at their other adjacent ends with reversely bent inwardly-converging portions for receiving a prong of an electric plug, each of the spring legs having a notch 39 or 40 at the reverse bend along diagonally opposite edges and a recess 37 or 38 in the side edge opposite the notches. Each opening has a pair of ribs 58, 59 disposed adjacent diagonallyopposite corners and a pair of cams 53, 54 in the other corners. In assembly, the contact is pressed upwardly into the opening so that the spring legs ride on to the cams 53 and 54 whereupon the contact is twisted within the opening as shown in Fig. 10. With continued upward movement the locking-ribs 58 and 59 pass through the notches 39 and 40 and are inserted between the respective spring legs 26, 27 and reversely bent portions thereof. Further movement brings the recesses 37 and 38 into alignment with the cams 53 and 54 and the contact then straightens itself and assumes the anchored position shown in Figs. 11 and 12.
