Abstract

906,283. Two-part couplings. INTERNATIONAL REGISTER CO. Oct. 30, 1958 [June 11, 1958], No. 34871/58. Class 38 (1). A male terminal tab or prong comprises sheet metal shaped with one or more raised portions having a flat surface extending in the direction of the length of the prong for frictional engagement with a corresponding flat portion of a standard female terminal connector, said surface having a detent engaging a corresponding abutment on the female connector. Figs. 2 and 5 show the male terminal tab 43 on a metal contact blade 12 for a switch, the tab being rippled to form transverse grooves 48, 48<SP>1</SP>, and raised lands 45, 45<SP>1</SP>. The anchoring portion 25 of blade 12 is shown mounted in the base panel 11 of the switch. The ripples enable the blade 12 to fit the same connector as the thicker blade 12a, the detent 34 on the connector engaging a shoulder 62 formed by striking metal from the land 45 to retain the connector on the tab as shown in Fig. 8. A recess 65 is formed on the opposite side of the terminal to give an alternative locking means if the terminal is inserted into the connector in an inverted position (Fig. 9, not shown). Chamfered end 60 helps, with guide surface 61, in the insertion of the male terminal into the connector. Two or three tabs 43 may be formed integral with blade 12 (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). In another application each limb of a U-shaped neutral terminal may be formed similarly to a tab 43 (Figs. 11, 12, 13, not shown) or may have a modified depression and raised projection pattern such that the grooves and lands are concentric or oblique (Figs. 14, 15, 16, not shown) for frictional locking engagement in a standard female connector.
