Abstract

Weldable compound expanded materials are produced by impregnating or spraying an expanded organic polymeric material with a paste of polyvinyl chloride containing expanding agent and expanding and gelling the polyvinyl chloride in the cells of the initial expanded material by heating. The expandable paste used in Example 1 contains expanding agent (diphenylsulphone-3,31-disulphhydrazide) and plasticizer (dinonyl phthalate).ALSO:Weldable compound expanded materials are produced by impregnating or spraying an expanded organic polymeric material with a paste of polyvinyl chloride containing expanding agent and expanding and gelling the polyvinyl chloride in the cells of the initial expanded material by heating. A skin of synthetic leather or polyvinyl chloride free from expanding agent may be welded to the product. In the examples, (1) a motor sun blind is made by lining a pre-heated mould with a polyvinyl chloride paste free from expanding agent; placing in the mould a plate of polyesterisocyanate expanded material impregnated with a polyvinyl chloride paste containing expanding agent (diphenylsulphone-3, 31-disulphhydrazide) and dinonyl phthalate plasticizer; and heating the mould (2) a synthetic leather is welded to a compound polyurethane-polyvinyl chloride expanded material and (3) a polyvinyl chloride hose is produced on an extruder by means of a transverse head tool and through the transverse head is drawn a circular profile of polyesterisocyanate expanded material impregnated on its outer surface with polyvinyl chloride paste containing expanding agent; a composite sheathed expanded material is formed.
