Abstract
912,544. Electric lighting fittings. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 20, 1959, No. 17220/59. Class 75 (2). A suspended electric lighting fitting includes a lampholder 14, an opaque casing 13 surrounding the lamp 15, a transparent body 11 formed with a neck portion 12 to fit into an aperture in the lower end of the casing 13, the body 11 being shaped so as to distribute the light received from the lamp through the neck portion, by multiple internal reflection, and a plurality of resilient strips 17 fixed at one end 18 to the lampholder and hooked at the other end 19 to engage a peripheral enlargement 16 on the neck of the body 11 being held in place by the casing 13 which can be moved to allow the strips to be disengaged. The body 11 may be of glass and may contain air bubbles arranged to form a pattern. The surface of the glass may also be engraved or etched. Coloured glass or a combination of coloured glasses may be used for the body 11. Alternatively, the body 11 may be of transparent plastic. Preferably, a lamp bulb with a reflecting coating applied to the upper half is used.
