[Also in Group XXXIII] A support mechanism for a load, e.g. a boat, on the end of a cable secured to the support pin 18 comprises a latch 16 pivoted at 21 between plates 11 and 12 which releasably engages the shackle 20 of the boat. A locking member 17, which is pivoted at 25, is provided to lock the latch 16 in the supporting position, shown in Fig. 4, by engagement of a projection 26 in a recess 23 of the latch. A spring 27 mounted on the lock at 28 and the plate at 29 is arranged to bias the lock 17 to lock the latch in the boat supporting position and also to release the shackle 20 when the weight of the boat is removed, e.g. on contact with the water. This latter movement is initiated by an occupant of the raft pulling the lanyard 30 to move the locking member 17 out of engagement with the recess 23 during the descent of the boat. The latch 16 remains in the supporting position all the time it is loaded by the weight of the boat. The lanyard 30 is also provided so that the latch 16 may be moved to release the shackle 20 by the occupant of the boat if the latch does not automatically move to this position. The latch 16 may move to the release position under its own weight. The bias spring may be connected between the latch and locking members so as to act directly on the latch to move it to the release position when the load is removed. The locking member may be provided with friction rods which engage the supporting plates so that the member maintains the position to which it is pivoted. The locking member may be adapted to co-operate with a release member on the davit which moves it to the unlocking position at the commencement of the descent.
