Abstract

1448194 Latches; hook fastenings BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45072/72 Heading E2A [Also in Division B8] A mechanism 5 for automatically releasing a cable 6 from an equipment carrying structure 1, 2 when lowered by a cable 6 onto a support, comprises a latch lever, spring biassed to normally lock a pivoted cable shackle engaging rod into a socket, and released against spring bias when the lever engages a stop. The mechanism 5 is mounted at the top of a structure part 2 pivoted at 3 to the remaining structure 1, the part 2 being biassed by elastic members 4 to fold flat down against the part 1, but the weight of the equipment reacting against the cable 6 maintains the two parts perpendicular to each other. Upon the equipment settling upon another support, the part 2 pivots into its flat position with further lowering of the cable 6 until the latch lever is released on engagement with the stop, whereafter the cable engaging rod is rotatable out of the socket to release the cable upon raising thereof.
