Abstract

910,748. Machinery safety devices. REDSHAW & CO. Ltd. March 9, 1959 [March 18, 1958], No. 8574/58. Class 80 (4). [Also in Group IX] In the scotch feed of a textile carding- machine having a pair of feed or cuttling rollers 12 rotated by intermeshing gears 16 driven by a pinion 30, one of the rollers is mounted at each end in a spring-loaded slidable bearing block 22 so that should an operator's fingers become caught, the feed rollers separate and disengage the toothed drive. The rollers 12 comprise wooden drums having blades 14 for conveying partially carded sliver from a scribbler to a carrier, and the sliding bearing block 22 has a projecting rod 24 carrying a spring 28 reacting against a bracket 26 which is adjustable along a fixed rod 27. The drive will also be disengaged should the sliver lap the roller.
