Abstract

910,283. Suction cleaners. ELECTROLUX Ltd. March 26, 1959 [April 1, 1958], No. 10566/59. Class 8(1). An elongated suction cleaner having an air inlet and an air outlet at opposite ends, is provided with a handle situated between transverse planes passing through the centre of gravity and the air inlet. The handle has a hand grip portion such that when the cleaner is lifted by the handle being loosely grasped, the grip portion is at an angle of between 30 and 45 degrees to the axis of the cleaner. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the handle 115 is pivoted to the casing at 135 and is provided with a stop which limits the amount of rotation of the handle relative to the casing to allow the cleaner to be carried at the required angle, G being the centre of gravity. The casing is preferably shaped to be lower at the air inlet end 18, the free end of the handle contacting the sloping part of the casing between the levels when not in use. An alternative form of handle is shown in Fig. 4 where the handle 15 is secured at both ends to the casing. The handle is formed with a grip portion 15a which will be horizontal when the cleaner is lifted, the hand sliding along the handle to the grip portion. The handle is preferably made of a plastics material which is slightly resilient. Specification 910,284 is referred to.
