Abstract

Coating compositions for coating the inside of balsa wood storage containers for liquefied gases (see Groups XXIII and XXVIII) comprise an epoxy resin, aluminium oxide, asbestos and an epoxy resin curing agent. Curing agents specified are 3-diethylamino propylamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, and phthalic and dodecenyl succinic anhydrides. The composition may be trowelled or sprayed to a thickness of about 1/8 inch; if sprayed, it is preferred that successive coats or layers be applied. Curing takes place at room temperature for 24-48 hours, at 93 DEG C. for 1 hour, or at temperatures up to 260 DEG C.ALSO:Coating compositions useful for laminating and coating balsa wood storage containers for liquified gases (see Groups XXIII and XXVIII) comprise an epoxy resin, aluminium oxide, asbestos and an epoxy resin curing agent. Curing agents specified are 3-diethylaminopropylamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, and phthalic and dodecenyl succinic anhydrides. In comparative examples the fillers are replaced by wood flour or ground leather.
