Abstract

Resins are prepared by reacting (i) an epoxy resin of the formula:- <FORM:0890745/IV (a)/1> where R1 and R11 are alkyl and n is an integer, (ii) an organic polyhydroxy compound, (iii) 0,5-2 equivalents, based on the hydroxyl equivalents of (i)+(ii), of a di-isocyanate, and (iv) 0,75-1 equivalent of, based on the epoxy equivalent of (i), of a polycarboxylic acid anhydride. Compounds specified are (i) bisphenol A/epichlorhydrin reaction products; (ii) glycols, e.g. polypropylene glycol of M.W. 1025, polyesters from adipic acid and either ethylene or dipropylene glycol, castor oil or reaction products thereof, e.g. with phenyl isocyanate; (iii) tolylene-o-diisocyanate; and (iv) phthalic anhydride. Acetone is used as a solvent. Uses. Glass cloth insulating materials and laminates (see Group VIII). Coating metals, e.g. Cu, Al, steel, Fe, tin foil. Films, released from tin foil by conc. H.Cl. Adhesives for metals. Specification 671,129 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 747,607.
