Abstract

907,441. Spinning yarns. SCRIVEN & CO. Ltd., WILLIAM. July 3, 1961 [July 6, 1960], No. 23579/60. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). In the production of hair yarn, a thread 10 of loose hair fibre is passed axially through a hollow spindle 3 which is rotated by a belt 4 and mounts a package 5 of binding, e.g. cotton, thread 11 which is drawn off one end of the package through a balloon restrictor control ring 8 towards one end of the spindle, and the package rotation causes the binding thread to be wrapped helically around the hair thread. The direction of rotation of the package may be the same as the direction in which the package was rotated to wind on its thread, so that the thread is subjected to a drag as it comes off the package The end of the extension 6 of the spindle is splayed to form a " mouthpiece " 7 which assists in tensioning the thread, and the action of the binding thread in sliding over the end of the spindle adds twist to the thread. The apparatus shown is incorporated in a spinning or winding machine with draft or delivery rollers 1, 2 and collecting rollers 9.
