An anchor connecting a steel shaft lining to a surrounding cement jacket comprises a stirrup 1 bent up from sheet material and welded to the steel lining 2. A transverse strengthening member 5 is welded in. In a modification the strengthening member is only provided in the external corner. In a further modification the separate strengthening members are replaced by a single bar 7 (Fig. 4) of angle or T-section.
