Abstract

906,436. Moulded footwear. TAYLOR, N. H. Nov. 24, 1960 [Jan. 2, 1960], No. 165/60. Class 17 (2). An improved method of moulding a shoe from layers of cloth impregnated with thermosetting plastics on a last 30, which is a corrected cast of a human foot, consists of adding padding 33 (which may be of sponge latex) to the lining at the toe end of the shoe so that the shoe will have a conventional outward appearance when reinforcing pieces 321, 322, 323, the outer layer 36 and the upper 37 have been added; and adding a part insole 34 and a heel and arch support 35, before the upper and then the outsole 38 and the heel 39 are secured by adhesive. Conventional foot-correcting devices may be incorporated in the shoe during the moulding. Reinforcements of plastics-impregnated fabric 321, 322 and 323 may be applied to the lining, and an ankle strip 31 which extends down the front of the instep to provide reinforcements for the eyelets may be included. The heel support 35 may be of cork or felt, and a wire 40 may be driven through the heel to conduct away any static electricity.
