Abstract
906,435. Linkwork. VICKERS AIRCRAFT HOLDINGS Ltd. July 14, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 13385/60. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXX] A device for normally maintaining equal tensions in cables 16 . . . 19 between an aircraft rudder 15 and a rudder bar 10 and for compensating for a change in length between the latter two members due to temperature changes, comprises two relatively rotatable members carried by a floating pivot which members are biased by a spring or springs to tension the cables. In Fig. 1 the two members comprise two levers 20, 21 pivoted together at 22 and are respectively connected between the cables 16, 19; 17, 18. Springs 23, 24 tension the cables and transmit movement between the cables 16, 18 and 17, 19. In Fig. 2 the two members comprise drums 40, 41 freely rotatable on a common floating shaft 42 and are respectively connected to the cables 17, 18; 16, 19. A spiral spring 43 tensions the cables and transmits movement between the drums. In Figs. 3-5 (not shown) the two cables which in Fig. 2 are attached to one of the drums are attached to individual rings carried by one of the drums. The rings are permitted limited rotation and are lightly sprung relative to their drum, which springs always maintain a light load in the cables. In Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) one-way ratchet clutches which are engaged on overload are provided between the drums to lock the latter together so that an overload may be applied through the system to release an icedup rudder.
