Abstract
994,696. Bowden cables; flexible shafts. W. C. GOWER. Aug. 16, 1962 [Sept. 22, 1961], No. 34077/61. Headings F2K and F2U. A flexible shaft or inner member of a Bowden cable comprises a chain of links 1a ... 6a, each of which has a pivot-pin at each end, the pins being arranged in parallel planes but offset angularly by less than 90 degrees to each other. The link may have a tongue e at one end which fits into a groove c of an adjacent link and is coupled thereto by a pin. Alternatively, a flat link f is pivotally mounted in end slots in adjacent links 4a, 5a. The cable may be enclosed in a flexible or fixed bent tube which provides for sufficient diametrical clearance to allow for rotation.
