Abstract

905,706. Portable containers. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 5828/60. Class 66. A container comprises a rigid bin 1 which may be of polythene, to which is secured a flexible portion 14 having an air bag 9 which may be inflated, after the container is filled, in order to make the portion 14 rigid. The two main parts of the container are secured as shown in Fig. 2, the rim of the bin 1 having a groove for an 0-ring 4 which presses the wall of the portion 14 into a groove formed in a polythene moulding 6. Steel tapes 8 overlie fabric hoops 7 to clamp the member 6 in postion. The portion 14 may be of plastics material or rubber reinforced with fabric. The air bag 9 and portion 14 have registering apertures in which a valve housing is secured, Fig. 3 (not shown). The portion 14 may be retracted within the bin 1 when the container is empty and the container nested with others in that condition, Fig. 4 (not shown). A detachable cover 2 is fitted in the container base.
