A table, stool, chair or the like has a supporting surface 17 and two pairs of legs 10, 11 adjacent opposite sides of the surface 17, the legs of each pair being of unitary construction, being secured at a position intermediate in their length to a cross-bar 12 and diverging from one another in the same sense above and beneath the bar, the surface 17 being secured to the legs above the bar. As shown in Fig. 1, a chair has front legs 10 and back legs 11 of laminated wood. The legs 10, 11 at each side of the chair are secured to the cross-bar 12 by fixing bolts 14. The opposite faces of the bar 12 are notched at 13 to receive parallel portions of the legs 10, 11. Horizontally extending limbs 15, 16 of the legs support a seat 17. The rearwardly extending limbs 16 are turned upwardly behind the seat and have a back 19 of laminated wood secured to them by wood-screws 20. The legs 10, 11 and the upward extension of the back legs 16 diverge downwardly. As shown in Fig. 2, the legs 30 of a table diverge outwardly above a bar 29 and are attached to further cross-bars 31 to which a table top 32 is attached.
