Abstract

903,828. Shackles; releasable fastenings; rings. BRITISH STEEL PILING CO. Ltd. Nov. 22, 1960 [Dec. 21, 1959], No. 43388/59. Classes 24 and 44. [Also in Group XXX] A shackle comprises two spaced arms one of which, 5, carries a bolt 8 which is spring-urged into contact with the other arm 6, means such as the cable 12 being provided to allow for withdrawal of the bolt and a locking pin 13 being operative to retain the bolt in its withdrawn position. As shown, the arms 5, 6 are the limbs of a U-shaped member 1 attached to a plate in which is an eye 4 whereby the shackle may be suspended from a crane hook and used in the lifting of apertured articles engageable by the shackle-in particular, steel slabs which have been drilled with holes of sufficient size to receive the bolt 8 of the shackle.
