[Also in Group XVII] A web feed device for a wrapping machine (see Group XVII) includes photo-electric means 35, 36 responsive to the presence of the web to stop the feed and sever the web. The web is fed by rollers 31, 32 past cutting means 38 across the path of an article 15 to be wrapped and between the means 35, 36. As the web interrupts the light beam, the photo-cell causes the feed to cease and, after a timed delay ensuring that the web has come to rest, the cutter to operate. The cut wrapper then slides down to contact the stop 39. As an article 15 picks up a wrapper, it operates a switch 40 to recommence the feed cycle. Length of wrapper fed may be adjusted by moving the photo-electric means.
