Abstract

1,098,800. Packaging-machines; packages. A. SCHMERMUND. July 22, 1965.[Aug. 10, 1964], No. 31143/65.- Heading B8C. A machine for wrapping, block-like articles, e.g. batches of cigarettes, comprises a longitudinally slottedfeed-table 105, along which the batches are fed by pushers 104 on spaced transverse bars 103 carried on conveyer chains 101; rollers (124), (125), Fig. 13 (not shown), for feeding a wrapper blank 1 transversely of the table, the blank being slit at opposed edges inthe manner shown in Figs. 1 and 6 (not shown), to provide flaps (14A), (14B) or (215A); and a reciprocable guide 107, with protruding blanks 109 which, during its forward movement folds a blank round the batch into U-shaped form, Fig. 2 or Fig. 7 (not shown). Further movement of the batch causes members 110, 111, 112 to fold protruding portions of the blank against the sides of the batch, Fig. 3 or 8 (not shown), and spring- loaded fingers (114), Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), mounted on spindles 115 then partially fold the flaps towards the base of the batch. The blanks are severed from a web by cutters 122, 123. Roller (127), Fig. 13 (not shown), carrying blades (128); 129) and co-operating with roller (126) is provided to cut the slits. Spindles 115 also carry levers 120 which co-operate with members 121 mounted - on the transverse bars 103 to swing the fingers (114) out of the feed path.
