Abstract

1,179,386. Feeding tobacco to cigarette and cigar making machines. ARENCO A.B. 8 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 47549/68. Heading A2C. In a machine for producing cigarettes, cigar bunches or cigar rods by a rod making process, using a tobacco distributing means which discharges a flow of tobacco to a conveyer belt 1, the width of the flow of tobacco is a multiple of the required width of the tobacco rod from which the rod product is made, the flow of tobacco is divided in its longitudinal direction into tobacco rods of said required width and each such tobacco rod is shaped and enclosed in a wrapper. Tobacco is showered by a distributer 8 on to the belt 1, trimmed by a rotating knife 10 and fed to a table 11 on which it is forwarded by a moving divided endless press belt 13 to a rotating circular knife 12. The two resultant tobacco streams are forwarded along paths 16, 17 on two continuous wrapper strips 29, 37, each under a press belt 25 having a press table 28 extending therefrom, and are then shaped and wrapped to form continuous rods in conventional manner by devices 36 and subsequently cut into cigarette or cigar lengths. The knife 12 may be replaced, for example, by a high-speed band saw or a laser beam.
