Abstract
1,095,979. Making cigar bunches. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Nov. 9, 1965 [Nov. 23, 1964], No. 47428/65. Heading A2C. In a machine for making perfecto-shaped cigar bunches having tapered ends, a continuous tobacco stream 14 is formed on and fed by a perforated tape 2 under a vertically oscillating trimmer 4 which continuously trims the stream 14 and additionally, at regular intervals incident to the spacing between the tapered ends of a perfecto-shaped cigar, removes an increased amount of tobacco to modify the contour of the stream 14. A suction chamber 3 underlies the tape 2 in the region of the trimmer 4. Trimmed off tobacco is removed from the trimming wheel 15 by suction through duct 16. The trimmed stream 14 is wrapped in a web of reconstituted tobacco 5 in which diamond shaped slits are produced, at intervals equal to the length of a cigar, by a die 6. After wrapping by conventional means, the wrapped rod passes between crimping rollers 11A, 11B to form the bunch ends at the points corresponding to the contoured parts of the tobacco stream 14 and the slits in the web 5, and then passes to a conventional cut-off 12. The operation of the cut-off 12, the rollers 11A, 11B, the die 6 and the cam 27 is synchronized.
