Abstract

901,820. Rotary wing aircraft. SMITH, A. L. March 27, 1961 [April 2, 1960], No. 11709/60. Class 4. A rotor for a rotary wing aircraft comprises a hub a carrying four blades each sectorshape in plan, the upper and lower walls b, b<SP>1</SP> converging rearwardly to be left open at their forward edges but closed at their rear edges by a plate b<SP>3</SP>, slotted at b<SP>4</SP>, and at their outer arcuate edges by a plate b<SP>2</SP>. It is stated that during rotation of the rotor air expelled through the slots b<SP>4</SP> is ejected either into the interior of the following blade or below the blade, depending upon the angle of incidence of the blades.
