Abstract
<PICT:0901522/III/1> In the apparatus shown, the heated solution is fed, by a pump 2, from a vessel 1 into the homogenizer 5 provided with a nozzle 51 through which the solution is discharged against a baffle plate 52. The homogenized solution passes into a tank 14 holding sufficient solution for a viscosity measurement to be made and provided with a pipe 15 through which any excess solution can overflow into a reservoir 9. The solution is fed, by a pump 6, through a viscometer, comprising a pressure vessel 7 and flow chamber 8, into the reservoir 9, from which it passes into the treating bath (not shown). A controller 10, provided with a device 101 indicating the actual value of the viscosity and a device 102 which can be set at a desired value, is connected to the vessel 7. Any difference occurring between the desired and actual values causes, continuously or intermittently, an electric motor 12, acting through transmission 13, to alter the distance between the nozzle 51 and the baffle plate 52. The apparatus may include an adjustable timing device enabling viscosity measurement and adjustment of the homogenizer to be effected periodically.
