900,339. Feeding appliances for animals. CHAMBRIER, A. April 28, 1961 [May 17, 1960; Oct. 11, 1960; Dec. 27, 1960], No. 15415/61. Class 5(2). In pig feeding apparatus the outlet 5 of a hopper 2 is controlled by a movable flap 6 held in the closed position by a lock 8 carried by the armature of an electromagnet 10 actuated at certain times under the control of a clock 11 to withdraw the lock and pivot the flap 6 downwardly so that foodstuff is discharged from the hopper on to a balance plate 12 which pivots under the weight of a predetermined quantity of food against the action of weights 14 and 15 to deliver the foodstuff to a trough 22. A flexible link 24 connects the plate 12 and flap 6 so that the flap is urged towards the closed position when the balance plate pivots downwardly. A pivoting shutter 25 controlled by a lever 26 situated outside the hopper allows the size of the outlet 5 to be varied. The weight 15 is slidably mounted on a lever 16 connected by a link 19 to the plate 12 so that the weight of foodstuff under which the plate 12 pivots may be varied.
