896,754. Debarking logs. OWEN-RICHARDS CO. Inc. Aug. 23, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 29133/60. Class 145. In a log debarking machine of the rotary ring type, tools 33 on pivoted arms 34 are held in contact with the log L by separate adjustable springs 49 acting on the arms through linkages 61, 66 of which the effective leverage decreases as the tools move outwards to accommodate larger logs, thus compensating for the increased spring force and maintaining the pressure on apart of the rollers 20 and the rollers 6, 7, 8; this distance is arranged to decrease in the direction of discharge so that the end of the veneer remote from the knife is gripped first. the log substantially constant for the range of log sizes for which the machine is designed. The arms 34 may be fitted with counterweights 38 to nullify the change in working pressure owing to centrifugal force. The tool arms are carried in a ring formed by spaced plates 14 supported on grooved rollers 16 and rotated by a chain and belt drive from a motor. A separate motor drives the infeed and outfeed rollers.
