Class 145 A machine for cutting up logs into firewood comprises chain band or circular saws 2 arranged parallel with one another and driven by one or more motors 3, a conveyer chain 4 driven by a motor 8 and having spaced toothed dogs 5, and a pivoted-frame 9 urged downwards by springs 11 and having strips 13 which extend between the saws and press down on the logs. An adjustable hinged feed table 15 is provided and sawdust is withdrawn by a motor-driven endless belt 17.
