Abstract

896,251. Bearings. MANBY, N., and BAMBRIDGE, W. H. June 4, 1958 [March 4, 1957], No. 7072/57. Class 12 (1). A rectilinear-motion bearing for a shaft 10 comprises an outer sleeve 11 and a plurality of balls located in longitudinally extending tracks in a cage 12 disposed between the sleeve 11 and shaft 10. The sleeve 11 has raised portions 16 forming load-bearing surfaces for the balls, and the cage 12 has curved end portions 15 which connect adjacent load-bearing and non- load-bearing sections of the track and form a single closed zig-zag circuit for the balls. Thin webs 21 at the ends of the cage connect the track-separating portions 20 with the ends of the cage. The shaft may have turning movement with respect to the sleeve 11. In a modification, separate closed circuits for the balls are formed, Fig. 5.
