Abstract

894,516. Screwing-up bolts &c. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1960 [Aug. 22, 1959], No. 28783/59. Class 83 (3). A machine for automatically feeding and " running " bolts, set-screws or nuts, comprises three parallel cylinders 1, 2 and 3, Figs. 2 and 6, arranged close together in a triangular cluster mounted in a vertical head 4. The cylinder 1 constitutes a magazine into the forward end 1A of which a vertical guide 5 projects. The components 6 (bolts in the example shown) are fed from the guide 5 one at a time by an escapement device 8 into the part 1A. A push-rod 7 connected by a rod 8 to a pneumatically-operated slide (not shown) pushes the component into a socket 21 carried by a pivotal arm 22, Fig. 3, operated by means carried in the third cylinder 3. The arm is attached to a bush 27 which through a pin 28 and slots in the bush is constrained to rotate during a reciprocating movement of an airoperated piston to which the bush and pin are also connected. The socket 21 and component therein are thus brought into alignment with the axis of the tube 2 which is provided with a spindle 39 and chuck 38 for " running " the component. The spindle is driven by an air motor (not shown) and the chuck 38 may be magnetic.
