Abstract

892,244. Container closures; lever lids. GRACE & CO., W. R. May 30, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 19105/60. Class 125(3). [Also in Group XXII] A hermetical container lid 14 had an annular channel 21 coated with a sealing lacquer which forms a bond with a sealing element 13 having an annular groove 27 of similar dimensions to a curl 12 formed on the upper edge of the tubular body of the container and coated with a material which does not form a bond with the sealing element 13. The inner surfaces of indentations 25 in the channel 21 form stops against which the curl 12 is forced to close the container. The sealing element 13 may be flowed in by means of a nozzle, the curl 12 being then inserted into the inverted lid, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), after which the container is placed in an oven to cure the composition of which the element 13 is formed. The curl 12 is thereby embedded in the element 13. A food pack is inserted through the open container end which is then closed by means of a base double seamed to a flange 32 on the container. The lid 14 may be levered off the container and re-applied. The sealing element may be formed of a resinous composition. Specification 660,361 is referred to.
