Abstract
891,847. Latch fastenings. GRETSCHUNITAS G.m.b.H. Feb. 8, 1960 [Feb. 28, 1959], No. 4333/60. Class 44. A latch for coupling the two sashes 18, 19 of a double window includes a hook 3a which engages a keeper 14 the hook being fixedly connected with a manually operable lever arm 4 capable of swinging towards the keeper for unfastening the latch, the arrangement being such that when both sashes are moved to the closed position the lever arm abuts a fixed part of the window frame which engages the hook and keeper. The hook 3a is provided by a cut-out 5 in a member 3 which is mounted in a casing 1 on a pin 2. The lever arm 4 is connected to the pin 2 outside the casing 1. The keeper is U-shaped and the hook 3 engages an opening 15 in its base. The keeper is mounted on the sash 19 and the casing 1 on the sash 18 and the window frame has a rebate 20 such that if the sashes are closed while the latch is unfastened the abutment of the lever arm 4 against the edge of the rebate 20 moves the latch to the fastened condition. The sashes must be moved away from the frame before the latch can be unfastened. To retain the latch arm in the fastened position a hole 10 is provided in the arm which cooperates with a pressed-out boss 8 in one side of the casing 1. A locating stud 13 is provided on the casing 1 which co-operates with an opening 16 in the base of the keeper.
