Abstract

889,618. Spirit duplicating materials and processes. KODAK Ltd. June 10, 1958 [June 10, 1957], No. 18474/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2). A support as of paper, metal or glass is provided with a layer of alcohol-soluble dye and then with a frangible layer of a hydrophilic alcohol-impermeable organic colloid. In use this is pressed against a moist adhesive photographic image, as of the undeveloped emulsion areas of a line or half-tone subject obtained by transfer as in the method of Specifications 725,667 and 800,772, and then removed to leave the frangible colloid adhered to such emulsion areas, whereupon wetting of the dye layer with an alcohol solvent and rolling it into contact with paper produces a dye image on the latter. An example states that a spirit duplicating master sheet of the conventional commercially available type comprising a coloured layer -of a mixture of an alcohol-soluble dye and wax on a paper base was coated with an aqueous composition of carboxymethyl cellulose, saponin and glycerin; preferably by two applications; and dried to form the frangible layer, and that several hundred prints can be readily obtained therefrom after transfer treatment as indicated above and moistening with an alcoholic solvent. Fourteen further compositions to form the frangible layer and one composition for an alginate anticurling layer are quoted, and the use of Crystal Violet with polyethylene glycol to form. the dye-wax layer is indicated. Specification 843,541 also is referred, to.
