Abstract

A lubricating oil composition comprises a chlorinated hydrocarbon and, as corrosion inhibitor, a minor proportion of a glycol monoalkyl ether of the formula R(OCH2CH2)nOH wherein R is a C1-C25 alkyl group and n is an integer from 1 to 30. Additional ingredients which may be present in the composition are mineral lubricating oil and 0,01-1% by weight, based on the total composition, of a polyglycol of the formula H(OCH2CH2)nOH wherein n is an integer from 1 to 30, for example di- or triethylene glycol. In examples, compositions are described consisting of (a) chlorinated kerosine and 1% by weight of diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether or (b) mineral lubricating oil, chlorinated paraffin wax, diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether and triethylene glycol. The oil compositions of Specification 663,172 are disclaimed.
