Abstract
Compositions containing alkali metal or ammonium salts of detergent sulphonic or sulphuric acids are prepared by neutralizing the acids, in the presence of sufficient water to form a pumpable slurry, with a mixture of alkali metal or ammonium carbonate and alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide in a weight ratio of from 10:1 to 1:1 (see Group IV(b)). The neutralisation products may be converted into detergent liquids, pastes and powders. In Example 2 the neutralized product obtained from sulphonated dodecylbenzene contained the sodium salt, sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate.ALSO:Detergent sulphonic or sulphuric acids, i.e. those acids which on neutralisation give salts having detergent properties, are neutralised, in the presence of sufficient water for the product to form a detergent slurry, with a mixture of alkali metal or ammonium carbonate and alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide in a weight ratio of from 10 : 1 to 1 : 1. Preferably the neutralising agent is used in the form of a solution of specific gravity 1.20-1.25 at 35 DEG C.-40 DEG C. A bleaching agent may also be added p with the main reactants. Specified detergent acids are the sulphation products of fatty alcohols and the sulphonation products of higher alkylbenzenes.
