Abstract
886,864. Induction coils; ignition magnetos. SYNCRO CORPORATION. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1958; March 12, 1959], No. 43143/59. Classes 35 and 38 (2). [Also in Group XXVII] To avoid the necessity for a capacitor across the contact-breaker points the primary winding of an induction coil or ignition magneto is given a high self-capacitance by forming it of two anodized aluminium foil strips 33, 34 (Fig. 3), wound together with separating dielectric insulating strips 35, 36. The inner end of one foil strip 34 may be connected to the outer end of the other foil strip 33 so that the two are in series. Alternatively, only one foil strip 304 (Fig. 9), may be in the primary circuit the lead to the make-and-break contacts 313 being connected to the junction of the two strips 304, 305. The coils are wound on a tubular paper support 42 (Fig. 3), placed in a cupshaped plastic enclosure 44 and potted. Details of a construction for use in a battery ignition system are given (Fig. 7, not shown). Fig. 2 shows part of a magneto for an I.C. engine on a lawn mower with the ignition coil assembly 11 carried on the centre member 23 of an E-shaped laminated core 19 secured on bracket 16 carrying the contact-breaker assembly 26, 27, 28, 29. A permanent magnet 15 is carried on flywheel 14. An inductor type generator-magneto construction is shown in Fig. 5 and comprises an annular magnet frame 113 carrying one or more permanent magnets 115 and secured to an I.C. engine shaft 112. Within frame 113 is a stationary coil and core assembly 114 carrying ignition coil assembly 128, generator coils 117, 118, 119 and a bracket 121 on which the contact-breaker assembly is secured,
