Abstract
886,849. Boots &c. SCHWARTZ & BENJAMIN Inc. Feb. 22, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 6187/60. Class 17(2) Part of the upper periphery of a shoe upper 10, Fig. 2, comprises a series of closely adjacent loops 25, 35 maintained in abutment by an enclosed elastic cord 30, attached, under tension, at its ends to the upper. The upper blank 10, of pliable material, e.g. leather or plastic, has open-ended slits 15, Fig. 1, formed around the curved instep portion and closed slits 20 formed along the periphery 11 between the instep portion and the counters. The elastic cord 30 is positioned adjacent to the periphery 11 which is folded inwardly to enclose the cord and to form the loops 25, 35. The folded portion of the periphery 11 is attached to the main body of the upper by stitching 21, 22, a tape 16 being placed over the loop-forming tabs 17 prior to stitching. The ends of the cord 30 are secured to the upper by stitching 21, 22.
