Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0886428/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R2 a hydrogen atom or an alkyl cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and R the radical of one of the two epimeric podophyllic acids of the empirical formula C22H23O8 and the preparation thereof by (a) reducing a compound of the general formula <FORM:0886428/IV (b)/2> at the -C=N double bond; (b) reacting a podophyllic acid hydrazide of the formula R.NH.NH2 with an alkylating agent of the formula <FORM:0886428/IV (b)/3> wherein X is a halogen atom or a radical of a sulpho or alkyl sulphuric acid; (c) reacting podophyllotoxin or picropodophyllin with a hydrazine of the formula <FORM:0886428/IV (b)/4> and (d) reacting a hydrazide of the formula R.NH.NH2 with a carbonyl compound of the formula <FORM:0886428/IV (b)/5> with simultaneous reduction of the -C=N double bond.
