Abstract
886,396. Preparing fibres for spinning. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Jan. 7, 1959 [Oct. 11, 1957], No. 31898/57. Class 120(3) Cotton or man-made fibres, or blends in which such fibres predominate are prepared for spinning by delivering opened and cleaned fibres in loose condition to a battery of carding machines, continuously delivering and drafting a plurality of slivers from these machines and continuously combining such drafted slivers. In one embodiment, a battery of cards A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> &c. arranged in parallel has each machine supplied with opened fibres continuously from individual feed trunks and each machine incorporates a drafting unit a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> &c., delivering slivers to a lap winding machine H from which laps are taken to the heads K<SP>1</SP>, K<SP>2</SP> &c. of a combing machine. Preferably each card will incorporate a levelness controller, e.g. rollers sensitive to sliver thickness effective to vary the speeds of feed rollers. The combed slivers are combined at a draw box C, collected in cans that are then creeled at a finisher drawframe E, and the resultant slivers are spun at the spinning frame G, leave is taken to present fibres having predominantly leading hooks to the combing machine and trailing hooks to high draft machines. When the fibres are not combed, slivers taken directly from carding machines pass through a draw box into cans that are creeled at the finisher drawframe E.
