Abstract

885,824. Platform elevators. EVANS, L., and EVANS, L. R. L., [trading as LENSON ENGINEERING CO.]. July 18, 1960 [May 1, 1959], No. 14972/59. Class 78 (3). A hoist to allow an operator to deliver goods at varying heights comprises an operator's platform 10 and slave platform 14 which are guided by uprights 3, 4 mounted on a wheeled chassis 1, and are raised and lowered independently by operation of controls 26, 27 on the platform 10. The platforms are raised by single acting hydraulic rams 18, 19 and cables 22, 23, and are lowered gravitationally under the control of one way restrictor valves. If the platform 10 contacts an obstruction when descending a frame 31 is pivoted to the chain line position thereby disengaging a lug 33 from a pin 34 so permitting a spring-loaded bolt 35 to engage a rack bar 37 on the upright 3. In a modification (not shown), the platforms are arranged back to back and at least the operator's platform is provided with embracing side cheeks which engage around the uprights to act as a brace. The two lifting rams are supplied from a common hydraulic source and provision is made for starting and stopping the ascent and descent of the platforms by electrical switches. The ascent of the slave platform is automatically effected by depression of spring- loaded switches beneath the platform by the load. In a further modification (not shown), the slave platform is raised and lowered by an electric motor-driven ratchet-wheel and a chain.
